Koko Kai Residence: Oahu, Hawaii
|
|
This 15,000 square foot Residence is currently in the schematic design phase. As it is such a large structure, every effort will be made to reduce the carbon footprint of this house as well as staying within the owner's budget.
The pre-existing home on the site was structurally unsound, and was removed to make way for the new, environmentally sensitive smart home that we are currently designing. To view a rough video of the demolition, please click here. The video is approximately 20 minutes in length.
Some socially and ecologically sensitive features of the new home will be:
1. The new residence will utilize renewable energy sources to supply as much of the energy needs of the home, as well as passive solar techniques to reduce the cooling loads required.
2. The services of the home will be physically isolated from the interior of the structure as much as possible to reduce maintenance and intrusion for the residents.
3. Technological monitoring and smart home systems will be incorporated for environmental, security monitoring and communications.
4. The house will nest with the site for both energy and ecological conservation considerations. Every effort is being made to be an integral part of the neighborhood.
5. If possible based on regional health codes, rainwater harvesting will be used to supply irrigation for the indigenous landscaping that will be used to soften the street facade.
